Men and gratings in "El sexto", of José María Arguedas
Abstract
The presentation refers on "the sixth one", a novel published by Jose Maria Arguedas in 1961, text that talks about a prison, "the filthiest one can ever imagine", in words of the author that had known this dark place in 1937, imprisoned because of his belonging to the committee of defence of the Spanish republic. In this prison, Arguedas found what he called a “complete sample of Peru”, leaders and politically active politicians, apristas and communists, coexisting within the most perverted and depraved subjects of the company, in floors freely communicated by stairs, marking the prison seem as Dantesque rings. In 1937 appeared, in addition, the novel "Men and gratings" written by Juan Seoane, that, undoubtedly, Arguedas knew.Downloads
